Provider Glitch

If you didn't notice, we had a minor problem yesterday for about 1.5 hours. Our provider was having a bit of a problem. We apologize for those of you that were trying to do a search yesterday. Everything should be back to normal, but feel free to let us know if there are any problems still remaining.

New! Speckly Tools

We've just launched Speckly Tools!

Find your torrent using our real-time search engine as before. Click on a search result link or our Quick Peek binocular icon. At the top, you will see Speckly Tools.

What does it do?

• Download in a browser! When you got to have it now, just click on the download button and your Torrent will download on the computer/device that you are using at the moment. No need for torrent software client.
• Tweet a search result! Simply click on the Twitter icon, login to your Twitter account, and hit the "Tweet" button.
• Email it! For those of you still in the Twentieth Century (yes, we're guilty as charged), simple click on the email logo to send it via email. Or just copy the link, if you just want to post the link on your blog, Facebook, or website.

Wasn't that simple!

It was a mad and furious end of the year, but we're glad to announce our new BitTorrent real-time search engine! Building on the basic concept that simpler is better, we took pains to make our new engine and interface just as simple as before while giving you more. And if you haven't noticed that we launched the engine a couple weeks ago, the better! More importantly, we've been listening to your comments and suggestions. Here are the highlights of our new real-time torrent search engine:

• Faster, faster, faster... Still in real-time, but we have made our search engine much faster. Now you can get your results in less than 5 seconds!

• Exact match search... Yes, we've taken our time getting this feature out, but now that we have the infrastructure upgrades done (last fall) and the new engine deployed, we're getting to the fun stuff. Just as in Google, Yahoo!, and Bing, just put your search in quotes and our engine will only search for exact matches.

• Sorting... Although we believe our engine will produce the best results, per your requests, you can now sort by seed, size, and date. Slice and dice to your hearts content!

• Added ExtraTorrent... Although good in of itself, what is more important is that our new engine can search even more BitTorrent sites than before without speed loss to display search results. Starting with the Top 25 (2009) as compiled by TorrentFreak, we look to bring you the most comprehensive real-time torrent search engine.

And there's more! You probably won't care about these as these features are for us, but trust me, they are cool. Makes life easier for us, and in theory, will make life easier and richer for you!

Mea Culpa

Sorry foks. We were a little over confident this past weekend and left the Speckly website unattended these past couple days - everyone went Halloween trick-or-treating. Needless to say, the Speckly website went down leaving you without any service for an extended period of time.

In most instances, if there is an issue with the servers, they will automaticaly reboot. Unfortunately, you cannot predict every scenario, and in this instance, they went down requiring manual reboot. To remedy this for the future, someone on the team will always get an automatic notification of any issue. If there is any server problems, we hope to limit any down time.

OK. Now that we have that taken care of that unpleasantness, back to your Speckly searches!

Faster Torrent Searches!

In our last post, we did some maintenance work. This wasn't simple updates, but a major upgrade. Given a couple weeks time to ensure stability, we're glad to report to you that those upgrades have decreased the average search times by about 15%.

More importantly, this upgrade also allows us to build and deploy new features much faster. So in the next while, you will be seeing some new features outside of performance and infrastructure upgrades.

Site Maintenance Tonight

Update: Maintenance seems to have gone smoothly. We will continue to monitor and please let us know if you experience any difficulties with the site.

We are performing some server upgrades tonight.  Please bear with us through any glitches.  Downtime is expected to be minimal.

1 Year Anniversary

We've hit the one year mark and we're still ticking! In that period, we've had over 4.2 million searches on Speckly. Whew - just our little contribution to the world of BitTorrents! Forgive us for being so bold, but we think you like what we've done.

In the past year, we've only done incremental visible changes while spending most of our time on behind-the-scenes upgrades. With the current usage and your feedback, it looks like we are doing the right thing. Moving forward, we plan to introduce more features per your suggestions as well as moving forward on our own feature list.

So, continue with your "Speckling" (and no, it wasn't some Speckly marketing guru that made it up, but a random person that made the comment), and keep an eye out as we will slowly introduce new features for your pleasure!

Speckly Adds SUMOTorrent

Wahoo! SUMOTorrent is now a part of our list of Torrent websites that we search. We've been a little late in the game with them (apologies to good folks at SUMOTorrent), but with their addition, you should have a good cross section of Torrent sites and get most of what you want from our search engine.
